Application Instructions

We are pleased that you are considering graduate study at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Graduate applications are only accepted online. In completing the online application, please provide as much information as possible to assist us in getting your materials processed as quickly as possible.

The Graduate School uses a self-managed application process. You are responsible for completing and submitting the following documents to the Graduate School in one envelope. Official scores must be sent to the Graduate School directly from the testing agency. Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed. Only completed applications will be considered by the admission's committee.

  • Signed Application Agreement Statement
  • $45 non-refundable application fee (US dollars only)
  • Three letters of reference (in sealed envelopes)
  • Official transcripts of all college work (in sealed envelopes)
  • Supplemental documentation, (e.g. essay, statement of interest) not attached to the online application
Transcripts

Request one official transcript from each college and institution attended. The official transcripts must remain in the sealed envelope.

Note: Transfer credit posted on another institution's transcript cannot be substituted in lieu of the original institution's transcript.

UNCW Graduates

If you attended UNCW, you do not have to request a UNCW transcript. The Graduate School will be responsible for obtaining that academic record (at no cost you) after you submit your application. For other colleges or institutions attended, you are required to submit an official transcript from those institutions.

Official Test Results

Please refer to the Graduate Program Requirement Chart to determine the standardized test required for your graduate program of study. The standardized tests accepted by UNCW are the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Management Test (GMAT), or Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Official scores must come directly from the testing agency. The Miller Analogies Test is administered by Harcourt Assessment and UNCW's institution code is 1372. The GRE is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), and UNCW's institution code is 5907. The GMAT is administered by Pearson VUE and UNCW's institution code is 5907. Scores more than five years old will not be accepted.

Letters of Recommendation

Request recommendations from individuals qualified to write about your potential for success as a graduate student. For current students or recent graduates, at least one recommendation from a college instructor is preferred.

For applicants applying to the MBA program, at least one recommendation from a supervisor is required. Ask the recommender to return his/her recommendation to you in a sealed envelope. Upon receipt of the references, do not open the envelope; place them in the envelope with your other application materials.

Statement of Purpose

Before using the Statement of Purpose with your online application, please review the Graduate Program Requirement Chart to determine if the program of study requires a specific form or specific questions that you will need to answer. If you use a program-specific form, you should place this essay in the envelope with your supplemental application materials.

Resident Status for Tuition Purposes

The Residency Application must be completed and submitted with your application materials only if you are claiming North Carolina residency for tuition purposes.

Admissions - International Applicants
