The University of North Carolina at Greensboro welcomes your candidacy for admission. Please read the following general instructions, as well as any sections which pertain to you, before completing the application.

Checklist for All Applicants

  • After reading the instructions, please fill out this online application as thoroughly as possible. Your failure to provide complete, accurate, and truthful information on this application will be grounds to deny or withdraw your admission, or dismiss you after enrollment.
  • A $45 non-refundable application fee payable by credit/debit card (Visa or MasterCard) or by personal check or money order.
  • Request that official SAT or ACT scores, including the writing component, be sent to UNCG directly from the testing agency. Test scores are required of all freshman applicants, as well as transfer applicants with fewer than 30 transferable semester hours.
  • Have official academic transcripts sent to UNCG.
  • Signature of a parent or legal guardian is required of applicants under 18 years of age.
  • Permanent resident immigrants must supply a notarized copy of their I-551/Permanent Resident Card.
  • Providing a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) is voluntary. However, if you intend to apply for or receive any financial aid, including outside or institutional merit-based scholarship support, you must provide your SSN (if you have one) so the University can process your application for aid and/or scholarship disbursement. Providing your SSN will also facilitate matching test scores and transcripts with your UNCG applicant records. Your SSN will only be used in accordance with state and federal law; it will not be used as your student identification number.
  • Admission to the University does not guarantee selection into any specific major or area of study. Transfer students should contact the school or department of interest to learn of any additional entrance requirements specific to the major. For more information regarding additional requirements for specific programs, please reference “Additional College, School, and Departmental Requirements” in the Admissions Information section in our online Undergraduate Bulletin at www.uncg.edu/reg/catalog or contact the appropriate school or department directly.
  • Prospective music majors and minors are required to audition with faculty members in your area of study. For details please contact the School of Music at (336) 334-5798.
  • Prospective dance majors participate in a selective admissions process. For details, please contact the Department of Dance at (336) 334-5570.
  • Prospective interior architecture majors are required to attend a department-sponsored information session and submit a departmental application. For details please contact the Department of Interior Architecture at (336) 334-5320.

Freshmen

Freshmen are students entering UNCG directly from high school. Freshman applicants should:

  • Submit this online application for admission by the Priority Consideration Application Deadline of November 1, 2007. The notification date is December 15, 2007. Completed applications received after December 15, 2007 will be reviewed on a rolling basis until March 1, 2008. Applications received after March 1 will be reviewed on a space available basis.
  • Students who are not from NC public high schools should complete the top portion of the high school report form. Have your high school counselor fill out the bottom section, and arrange to have this form - along with your official high school transcript (in a sealed envelope) showing senior courses in progress - sent to UNCG.
  • Request that official SAT or ACT scores, including the writing component, be sent directly from the testing agency.

Transfer Students

Transfer students must present 30 transferable semester hours or more of college credit from a regionally accredited institution, have a minimum overall and transferable grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale as calculated by UNCG, have successfully completed a high school curriculum meeting the Minimum High School Course Requirements referenced below, and be eligible to return to their last institution attended. Transfer applicants should:

  • Submit the application and all required credentials by August 1 for the fall semester or December 1 for the spring semester.
  • Request official transcripts from each college or university attended, including summer session or extension work.
  • Request that your high school mail an official transcript directly to the UNCG Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Provide a list of courses in progress on a separate sheet of paper and include the course titles, course numbers, and the credit hours attempted. (You should not list the courses that will appear on your transcript.)

A student who has fewer than 30 transferable semester hours of credit must meet the requirements for both freshman and transfer applicants (including SAT or ACT scores). Any student who has attended a collegiate institution not regionally accredited must meet the requirements for both freshman and transfer applicants (including SAT or ACT scores).

High School Transcripts

Some North Carolina public high schools have the capability to electronically send official high school transcripts when you apply online. We encourage you to visit your school counselor to verify coursework and grades prior to requesting an electronic transcript.

To send an electronic transcript, you must:

  • Complete this online application.
  • Make sure you have entered the following information in your profile and/or application:
    • First and last name
    • Date of birth
    • NCWise ID (Your NCWise ID is your public high school student identifier number. Providing the NCWise ID is voluntary and if provided will give you the opportunity to request your high school transcript electronically)
    • Gender
    • Current high school
    • E-mail address
  • Be currently enrolled at a participating public high school in North Carolina (one that has converted from the SIMS system to NCWISE to manage student data). If you are not sure about your school, check with your school counselor or office staff.
If these conditions were met when you submitted your application, you will then be presented with the option of sending your high school transcript electronically to that school.
