Distance Learners Applicants
Distance learners are students who enroll in specific programs which are approved by the university as "distance learning" programs or courses. These include programs at remote sites and courses that are technology assisted. If you are unsure of whether you are applying for admission to an approved distance learning program, please contact the Coordinator of Student Services, Office of Distance Learning (phone (336) 750-2634 or email dl@wssu.edu). You will be referred to the correct program advisor.
Application as a distance learner is dependent on the program of study in which you will enroll. If there is a question about your status, we will make every attempt to clarify your status before forwarding your application for processing as regular on-campus student.
Former Students/Readmission
Any student who was enrolled at WSSU previously and not enrolled currently. If any other college or university has been attended since the previous enrollment at WSSU, all of those transcripts must be received by the Registrars' Office before readmission status can be determined.
Summer School Only
During the summer sessions, students from other colleges and universities may be admitted as a Summer Only student. Applicants from other colleges or universities must obtain prior approval from their dean to take courses at Winston-Salem State University. The university assumes no responsibility for determining the student's course selection when credits are to be transferred elsewhere. Enrollment by permission from another institution does not obligate the university to continue the student's enrollment at Winston-Salem State University after the expiration of the summer session period. Winston-Salem State University will accept for enrollment in certain university courses high school juniors and seniors who are above average in academic achievement and who have the formal endorsement of and permission from their high school principal. Please make sure you choose Undeclared as your major.

To send an electronic transcript, you must:
- Complete this online application.
- Make sure you have entered the following information in your profile and/or application:
- First and last name
- Date of birth
- NCWise ID (Your NCWise ID is your public high school student
identifier number. Providing the NCWise ID is voluntary and if provided
will give you the opportunity to request your high school transcript
electronically)
- Gender
- Current high school
- E-mail address
- Be currently enrolled at a participating public high school in North Carolina (one that has converted from the SIMS system to NCWISE to manage student data). If you are not sure about your school, check with your school counselor or office staff.
