Admission Information & Requirements
The goal of the Guilford College admission process is to identify those applicants who will benefit most from a Guilford education and contribute significantly to the Guilford community. The admission committee thoroughly reviews each applicant to determine academic preparation as well as to evaluate other qualities such as leadership, creativity, and school and community involvement.
For first-year applicants, we consider your coursework and grades, with the expectation that you will have at least four college-preparatory courses each year and the hope that you have challenged yourself with advanced courses where available. To the extent that we can, we also consider the level of competition in your high school.
We also consider your SAT 1 or ACT scores in conjunction with your transcript. Guilford College is a test optional college. Students have the opportunity to submit an academic portfolio of 3 pieces of written work in lieu of standardized test scores. The greatest emphasis in the admission process is placed on your four years of high school achievement. Along with your transcript, standardized test scores (or academic portfolio), we consider your extra-curricular activities, your personal essay, and letters of recommendation from your teachers and high school counselor.
Though not required, personal interviews are available during the academic year. We encourage students to visit campus for tours, as it allows us to know you better. To receive more information about visiting campus, please visit www.guilford.edu/visit.
Application checklist:
- Your completed online application for admission (the $25 application fee is waived for students applying online)

High School Transcripts

Some North Carolina public high schools have the capability to electronically send official high school transcripts when you apply online. We encourage you to visit your school counselor to verify coursework and grades prior to requesting an electronic transcript.
To send an electronic transcript, you must:
- Complete this online application.
- Make sure you have entered the following information in your profile and/or application:
- First and Last name - This must match your NCWISE name (use the name that appears on your report card, or check with your high school counselor).
- NCWISE Student ID - Your NCWISE Student ID is your public high school student identifier number and can be found on your report card. Providing the NCWISE Student ID is voluntary and will give you the opportunity to request your high school transcript electronically.
- Current high school (or high school at time of graduation)
- Date of birth
- E-mail address
- Gender
- Be currently enrolled, or enrolled at the time of graduation, at a participating public high school in North Carolina that has converted from the SIMS system to NCWISE to manage student data. If you are not sure about your school's current status, or status at the time you graduated, check with your school counselor or office staff.
If these conditions were met when you submitted your application, you will then be presented with the option of sending your high school transcript electronically to that school.
