Minimum High School Courses Required for Freshmen and Transfers
Listed below are the minimum high school course requirements for freshman and transfer applicants. UNCG's admission decision is based on successful completion of these courses, the overall high school or college record, and SAT I or ACT scores*. Transfer applicants who did not successfully complete the required high school units must complete specific college-level courses in order to transfer to UNCG (contact the Admissions Office for specific course requirements).
  • English (4 years) — emphasis on grammar, composition, and literature
  • Mathematics (4 years) — algebra I, algebra II, geometry, one advanced course beyond algebra II**
  • Science (3 years) — including at least one year in life or biological science, at least one year in physical science, and at least one laboratory course
  • Social science (2 years) — including one year in U.S. history and one year in history, economics, sociology, or civics
  • Foreign language (2 years) — both years should be in the same language
  • Elective (1 year) — any academic area
Applicants who are home-schooled or attended schools that are not regionally accredited or have non-traditional grading systems may be asked to meet additional admission requirements.

*Transfer students who have more than 30 transferable semester hours of college credit are not required to submit SAT I/ACT scores.
