School of Design and Production


The School of Design and Production offers a Master of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts and a College Arts Diploma.

Bachelor of Fine Arts or Arts Diploma

Portfolio Requirements:

An original portfolio of work is required at the time of interview. Do not send your portfolio with the application. Examples of work the portfolio might contain are:
  • photographs of productions
  • drawings or paintings from arts classes (not necessarily related to theatrical design)
  • three-dimensional work, models, sculpture
  • production books
  • production draftings
  • scene, costume or lighting examples, renderings and sketches
  • visual examples showing the applicant's highest level of achievement and training, graphic abilities and artistic vision
  • sketchbooks, preliminary sketches (your process)
  • sound systems diagrams, audio examples on CD, notation of cues

The Interview

  • Interviews are scheduled upon receipt of the Application for Admission or, if applying online, the Application Agreement Statement and application fee ($60 for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents and $110 for international applicants).
  • Applicants who cannot interview in person may request consideration for a special interview. Contact the Office of Admissions (336-770-3290) for further information on how to make these arrangements.
  • Applicants must submit all required documentation to the Office of Admissions prior to their interview date as the documentation is used in the interview process.
  • Applications and accompanying documentation should be submitted by the deadline stated in the application.
  • The Office of Admissions will email confirmation of the interview date and time.
  • Applications received after the deadline will be processed on a first come, first-served basis.

ON-CAMPUS

  • Undergraduate applicants check-in at the Welcome Center at 9:15 am.
  • The morning includes a walking tour of the campus and an information session.
  • Undergraduate applicants check-in at the School of Design and Production at 1:30 pm for a student guided tour of Design and Production facilities.
  • Interviews begin at 2:30 p.m. and are conducted on an individual basis in 30-minute segments. There will be a waiting period if several applicants are scheduled to interview for the same program.
