School of Filmmaking

Below are detailed instructions for documentation required to complete the application for admission. This documentation is required by the School of Filmmaking for consideration by the faculty for an interview and, if recommended for acceptance, by the Admissions Review Committee for a final admissions decision. Bachelor of Fine Arts (first time freshman)

  • An official copy of your high school transcript to include course names and scores for grades 9 through 12. Courses in which you are currently enrolled should be included on the transcript (minimum 3.0 GPA required). See Minimum Course Requirements.
  • Home schooled applicants must provide the following:
    • Titles and course descriptions in each year of home schooling, tests used and evaluation of knowledge that applicants has completed the equivalent of the University of North Carolina’s Minimum Course Requirements.
  • Official SAT (UNCSA College Board Code #5512) or ACT (UNCSA ACT Code #3133) scores sent directly from the testing agency (minimum SAT of 530 Verbal and 520 Math or a combined Verbal and Math score of 1100 or better and/or an ACT minimum score of 22).
  • Two letters of recommendation (1 from an arts instructor and 1 from an academic instructor).
  • Resume detailing artistic experience and educational objectives.
  • Mandatory Information Form.

College Transfer Applicants

  • Sealed, signed or notarized official transcript from the registrar of each institution attended. Courses in progress should be included if applicable.
  • Sealed or notarized official high school transcript.
  • Official SAT (UNCSA College Board Code #5512) or ACT (UNCSA ACT Code #3133) scores sent directly from the testing agency (minimum SAT of 530 Verbal and 520 Math or a combined Verbal and Math score of 1100 or better and/or an ACT minimum score of 22).
  • If course work has been completed at institutions outside of the U.S., official transcripts must be submitted and a notarized or certified English translation provided of all course work. An accredited foreign educational credential evaluation service may also be used.
  • If your name has changed since you were enrolled please indicate the name that will appear on the transcript on the application for admission.
  • Two letters of recommendation (1 from an arts instructor and 1 from an academic instructor).
  • Resume detailing artistic experience and educational objectives.
  • Mandatory Information Form.

International Applicants (first time freshman)

  • An official copy of your high school transcript to include course names and scores for grades 9 through 12. Courses in which you are currently enrolled should be included on the transcript. All transcripts must be translated into English and signed by a notarized translator.
  • TOEFL score of 550 or more (paper based) or 213 (computer based). Refer to UNCSA handbook for additional information.
  • Two letters of recommendation (1 from an arts instructor and 1 from an academic instructor).
  • Resume detailing artistic experience and educational objectives.
  • Mandatory Information Form.
  • Mandatory Questions for International Applicants.
  • Copy of current passport.
  • Copy of visa or I-20 if held at the time of application.
  • If a Permanent Resident, a copy of both sides of your permanent resident paperwork is required.

International Applicants (college transfer)
