All Applicants
After reading the instructions, please fill out the online application as thoroughly as possible. Your failure to provide complete, accurate, and truthful information on this application will be grounds to deny or withdraw your admission, or dismiss you after enrollment. When you are finished, click the SUBMIT button on the left column of any application screen. Print the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the application. Return it with a nonrefundable application fee of $40 to the address below.
- Social Security numbers are required solely to help identify students' records within our information processing system.
- Submit the application prior to the following priority deadlines: July 15 - Fall Semester; December 1 - Spring Semester; May 15 - Summer I Session; and June 15 - Summer II Session.
Supporting Documents
- Transcripts —
Official transcripts of all previous academic work must be sent to the university. (To be official, a transcript must display the school seal and be mailed directly from the high school or college to the admissions office.) Faxed copies will be accepted as official if received from the appropriate school.
- Beginning freshmen should request that their high school forward an official and complete high school transcript to the admissions office. This transcript should indicate the courses in progress, North Carolina Competency Test scores (if applicable), rank in class, and date (or expected date) of graduation. A final transcript must be sent at the completion of the senior year. High School seniors who have taken classes at a college/university need to send all college transcripts to Admissions.
- Transfer students must have official transcripts mailed from each college and high school previously attended. A university questionnaire should be submitted to the appropriate dean of the last institution attended with the request that it be forwarded to UNCP. Transfer students with less than 24 semester hours of transferrable course work must also meet freshman requirements.
- Adult special students are classified as enrichment/non-degree, nontraditional, second degree seeking, teacher certification, and transient. Nontraditional students must supply an official copy of their high school transcript and standardized test scores, if applicable. Second degree seeking and teacher certification students must have a copy of their college transcript indicating the date the baccalaureate degree was conferred. Transient students must complete a separate application. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.
- Aptitude Tests —
All freshmen-class candidates must submit scores from either the College Board (SAT I) or the American College Testing Program (ACT). To request your official SAT I results, write to: College Board, ATP, Box 592, Princeton, NJ 08514. (All public universities in North Carolina require scores for the writing section of the SAT or ACT. The writing section of the test is included with the SAT, but if you are taking the ACT you must make sure to register for the "ACT Plus Writing”.)
North Carolina Residency
- Under North Carolina law, bona fide legal residents (domiciliaries) of North Carolina are eligible for a lower tuition rate than non-residents. Copies of the applicable law and of implementing institutional regulations are available for inspection in the Sampson-Livermore Library and may be examined upon request. In essence, the controlling North Carolina statute (G.S. 116-143.1) requires that "to qualify for in-state tuition a legal resident must have maintained his domicile in North Carolina for at least 12 months immediately prior to his classification as a resident for tuition purposes." Neither a foreign national nor an alien admitted on a student visa is eligible for the in-state tuition rate. An alien holding a visa which will permit permanent residence in the United States is subject to the same considerations as a citizen. If residence is questionable, completion of an application for residency may be required. Determinations of residency for tuition purposes are made based on a preponderance of the evidence relevant to intent to maintain legal residence.
- Military members and dependents stationed in North Carolina may be eligible for an in-state tuition waver. To be considered for this, the student must submit a military waiver form.
International Students
In addition to submitting the online application, international students from non-English speaking nations must submit an official copy of their high school and/or college transcripts translated into English. The following forms must accompany the transcript(s): affidavit of support, financial certification, official bank statement, educational supplement (which indicates the total number of years in school and any certificates or diplomas awarded), and evidence of proficiency in the English language. Scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required. Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) or American College Test (ACT) scores may be substituted for students born in non-English speaking countries but educated in a senior high school in the United States. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is approved by the Immigration Naturalization Service as an institution for the attendance of students who possess the F-1 visa.
Audit
New students who plan to audit a course must complete an application in conjunction with a form indicating the approval of the appropriate professor(s) and Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.
Health Forms and Residence Halls
Prior to enrollment, a completed health form must be submitted to the Student Health Services Office by all students registered for nine or more semester hours. This application for admission does not reserve a residence hall room. A housing application will be forwarded to students upon acceptance to the university. Questions concerning housing should be directed to the Student Affairs Office at (910) 521-6226.
High School Transcripts
Some North Carolina public high schools have the capability to electronically send official high school transcripts when you apply online. We encourage you to visit your school counselor to verify coursework and grades prior to requesting an electronic transcript.
To send an electronic transcript, you must:
- Complete this online application.
- Make sure you have entered the following information in your profile and/or application:
- First and Last name - This must match your NCWISE name (use the name that appears on your report card, or check with your high school counselor).
- NCWISE Student ID - Your NCWISE Student ID is your North Carolina public high school student identifier number and is only applicable to North Carolina High School students. Providing the NCWISE Student ID is voluntary and if provided, will give you the opportunity to request your high school transcript electronically.
- Current high school (or high school at time of graduation)
- Date of birth
- E-mail address
- Gender
- Be currently enrolled, or enrolled at the time of graduation, at a participating public high school in North Carolina that has converted from the SIMS system to NCWISE to manage student data. If you are not sure about your school's current status, or status at the time you graduated, check with your school counselor or office staff.
If these conditions were met when you submitted your application, you will then be presented with the option of sending your high school transcript electronically to that school.
